Currently, more children on a daily basis are put vulnerable to some serious long-term health consequences.  Weight  problems in children is closely correlated with adult obesity.  Children between 2 and 5 years old that are over weight are four times as likely to be over weight adults.  It has become a disturbing national epidemic and has grown considerably in the past two decades.  It has been put front and center by Michelle Obama.

Children are classified as overweight or in danger of overweight based on the Body Mass Index (BMI).  Children’s Healthcare said they were sparked to launch the campaign after the latest statistics revealed that one million children in Georgia  — nearly 40 % of the state’s children  — are overweight or obese, and that three-quarters of parents with overweight kids do not recognize their kids as overweight. Children look cute when they are fat.  This is the perception of each parent.

Food industries create innovative ways to develop a sense of fun and entertainment on their packaging to attract kids of various age groups.  Food ads in the media make up 50% of all the ad time on children’s shows. Childhood obesity is complicated in accordance with fast food, sodas, TV and video games. Many staples of modern life are pushing kids in the wrong direction.

Kids have the greatest chunk of their excess daily calories from sugary drinks including sodas, energy drinks, artificial fruit juices and sweetened teas. Parents can certainly help their kids stay a healthy weight and away from the obese range by limiting video games and television time.  Moreover, parents can encourage and supervise age-appropriate activities which allow movements.

Weight loss is normally appropriate for kids over age 7 or for younger children who have related medical problems.  The strategy for maintaining your child’s current weight or losing weight are identical: Your little one needs to eat nutrition and increase her / his physical exercise. Childhood obesity education starts with the parents or guardians. Parents play an important role in assisting kids that are obese feel loved and in control of their weight.  Parents work as role models for kids in several ways, including behaviors and attitudes associated with food and nutrition. Parents might want to consider keeping track of their children’s food intake as well as their physical activity.

Parents and guardians can assist prevent childhood obesity by stocking with healthy foods.  It is crucial that parents serve a good example for their kids. They are the ones who choose the food, cook the meals and determine where the food is eaten. Mom and dad can be the child’s first and most consistent teacher of essential life skills.
